Today, Green Positive Nanny host, Munni Irone travels to Sacramento, California to meet a very special young lady. Melanie a young lady who has overcome adversity by finding strength in the power of family. She was raised in a household with a young brother and parents with serious health issues. Her father suffered from serious illness after receiving a kidney transplant which included high-blood pressure, fever, and limited mobility. Additionally, her mother battled alcoholism and drank daily in order to cope with life. While Melanie and her brother struggled with such a difficult home life, Melanie sought strength in the only stability in her life: Family. She reached out to her aunts and uncles for their wisdom and advice to help her move past these challenges. Her family taught her to make good decisions, be a good citizen of the community, and focus in what you can change to better yourself. With this wisdom, Melanie was able to accomplish many goals and lead a healthy life without alcohol or drugs. She also served as an example to her brother by taking care of him mentally, physically, and emotionally. Melanie trusted the strength of the family and used this wisdom as a method to rise above a challenging home life. As a result of her family's support, she and her brother are accomplished citizens and continue to be resilient when faced with hardship. Melanie is now an accomplished retail manager, college graduate, Masters degree holder, and happily married to an alcohol-free husband. Her brother is a successful sales representative with two healthy children, happily married, and will be graduating in May with his college degree. Given their upbringing, Melanie and her brother should have fallen into the the wrong crowd and abused substances, but they did not end up in such a situation. Instead, they leveraged the strength of their core family to help them become successful individuals and a positive benefit to society.
